You’ll join a group of professional actors who will guide you on your quest to solve the mystery. After kicking off the show with the entire group, you’ll be separated into smaller teams and have the chance to interview key players individually. Once you’ve spoken to each person involved in the case, you’ll discuss it with your team and craft your hypothesis. You will be cast as either a member of the Prosecution, the Defence, or the Jury. We will conduct a trial, and all parties will participate in this thrilling experience.
The teams that guessed correctly get ultimate bragging rights over everyone else.
March 1915. New York City health officials apprehend 45-year-old Mary Mallon, better known as “Typhoid Mary,” for the second time after linking her to another typhoid fever outbreak! Presumably, Mallon has infected 51 people with Typhoid Fever, and three of them have died.
The Trial of Typhoid Mary offers students a unique, immersive experience where they can actively participate in this historic trial. Dive into the complexities of the case, explore critical themes like public health, immigration, gender inequality, and individual rights, and decide if she should be given a second chance or sent away for life. It’s a rare opportunity to engage with history, sharpen critical thinking skills, and experience the courtroom drama firsthand by living through it. Will you make the same choice as those in 1915, or will you change the course of history? The decision is yours.
